Children with developmental delays find it much harder to do everyday things that other children their age can do, for example dress themselves, talk or walk.

A child with developmental delay needs lots of extra help to do everyday things compared to children of the same age. Physiotherapy can help children work towards physical milestones such as crawling, sitting and standing.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a condition where the head (ball) of the femur bone has an abnormal relationship to the acetabulum (socket). Good hips to start out life are very important. If the hip joints have not developed properly when a baby takes their first steps, the scenario may be set for hip troubles later in life.

Physiotherapy can help with stretches to do at nappy changes, provide strategies for positioning and play with your baby, and help treat some of the conditions associated with DDH.

Our School Support service ensures that children receive consistent physiotherapy care both at home and in the classroom. We work closely with teachers and parents to create a seamless support system, assisting children with accessing classrooms, activities, and learning opportunities on par with their peers. This collaborative approach fosters a cohesive environment for the child’s development and success.

Physiotherapy can help improve the quality of life for individuals with a range of neurological conditions such as Muscular Dystrophy to help maintain muscle strength, flexibility.

We can also help identify and source assistive technologies to help maintain a certain degree of independence.

Neurological Conditions

Some conditions necessitate the assistance of technologies such as wheelchairs, walking frames, or orthotics  for children to maintain their mobility and learn independence. It is essential that each individual is properly assessed to identify the most appropriate equipment for their needs. At GK Physio we can provide this assessment and prescribe exactly what your child needs.

Cerebral Palsy is an umbrella term referring to a physical disability that affects movement and posture. In most cases it is caused by an injury to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth.

Physiotherapy can help patients develop new motor skills, improve or maintain existing skills and abilities and support participation in sport, recreation and leisure activities.
